We are Year 5 and 6. We're taught by Mrs Morris as well as Mrs Matchett, Mrs Moran ( PE ) and Madame Shackleton ( French ). Mrs Paul and Miss Lea support us in our learning.
This term we are learning all about Darwin's Delights - we’re off on an exciting journey with Charles Darwin and his crew on the HMS Beagle.
We've begun with a fossil hunting trip to Lyme regis, looking at how creatures have evolved over the years as well as the work of Mary Anning. With the Blackdown Hills, we have also identified habitats around our school - woodland, field, hedgerows, river - and creatures that live in them. We will continue to find out about our native and worldwide creatures and plants, investigating adaptation, natural selection, variation and inheritance. We’ll retrace Darwin’s steps before using maps and globes, to plan an expedition of discovery. What will the weather be like and what physical and man-made features might we encounter?
At the end of the topic, we’ll think about why the Galapagos Islands developed such diverse animal life, and why they might be under threat. We’ll also think about what Darwin would have worked on if he were alive today. How would he use our technology?
Please continue to read at least five times a week and record in your reading journal. This along with your detailed reading activity needs to be brought in each Friday.
Spellings will go home each Thursday and you should be ready to be tested on this day too.
It is also important that you know all your tables - keep practising those tricky ones.
Project Home Learning - due in on Monday 15th July
* You have discovered a new creature or plant. Make it. Identify it's habitat and explain how it has adapted to this environment, think about it's life cycle and diet. Include this information in your presentation.
